Novelty in Tirana: Students to have lunch and do their homework at school
The Municipality Council has approved today a new project, according to which, pupils of grammar schools in Tirana will stay at school from 8 am to 5 pm. The aim is to offer friendlier schools, away from vices and dangerous behaviors. Lunch will be consumed within school premises, while homework will not be done at home, but in the classroom, under the supervision of teachers. Which are the schools where this novelty will be implemented and how much will parents have to pay? Which pupils will benefit free food?

Around 3 thousand children attending grammar schools in Tirana, will be part of a new project which will keep them inside school premises for their homework and will also provide them healthy lunch food. According to the project of the municipality of Tirana, which is expected to be approved today during the meeting of the Municipality Council, the following schools will benefit from it: “Adrian Klosi”, “Hasan Tahsin”, “Betim Muço” and “Red School”.

Pupils of these schools in the capital will do the homework inside school premises. They will go to school at 8 am and leave school at 5 pm. After class, children will have lunch, they will engage in leisure activities and then they will come back to class, where they will do their homework.

In some schools, the entire cost of the food, which is 160 lek a day or 1.2 euros, will be paid by the parents. In other schools, parents will pay 50% of the cost, while pupils who come from families on social allowance, will get free food from the municipality. This project will start from January and will last until June.

After classes, pupils will be assisted for their homework and will also participate in different clubs where they will learn how to play musical instruments, will play games, will use the computer, etc. This project aims at offering educational supporting alternatives, friendlier schools, away from vices and dangerous behavior. Once the academic year is completed, pupils who attend these schools will be compared to other schools. This project, which is realized in cooperation with the ministry of Education and the support of the Albanian-American Development Fund, will then act as a model to be applied in all public schools.
