As of January next year, the residents of the capital will pay 20 lek more about their water or 65 lek per cubic meter. The Water Regulatory Body has approved the decision proposed by the Municipality Council in July of this year to increase water charges in Tirana, although not at the level requested by the municipality, for all business categories or state institutions. The biggest increase applies to households, who, besides an increase of 20 lek per cubic meter, will also pay a double amount of fixed charges.

Water charges

Starting from January 2018, from 45 lek per m3 that they used to pay, household customers will now pay 65 lek/ m3. Meanwhile, if we add an 11 lek per cubic meter charge for sewages, the final charge that applies to household consumers amounts to 76 lek per cubic meter. This is the last decision taken by the Water Regulatory Body, which has approved the new prices of drinking water for the municipality of Tirana, following the decision of the Municipality Council taken in July. There will also be changes in water charges for businesses, which today pay 135 lek per cubic meter, whereas with the new charges in place, they will pay 155 lek per cubic meter. As far as companies are concerned, the Municipality Council had proposed a price of 190 lek. Public institutions will also face an increase of 20 lek. Up until today, the charge for state institutions has been 120 lek per cubic meter, while from January 1, they will have to pay 140 lek per cubic meter. The initial proposal of the municipality of Tirana was 170 lek per cubic meter.

On the other hand, the Water Regulatory Authority has listened to the requests made by several bakeries in the capital and several other special customers, who asked for the price of water not to be increased. So, price will remain unchanged for bakeries, which will continue to pay 95 lek per cubic meter, while Special Customers, who work in the production of fresh beverages, alcoholic beverages and pools, will pay 170 lek per cubic meter. For this category, the Municipality Council had proposed a charge of 235 lek per cubic meter.

Fixed charge

Meanwhile, there will not be only increases for the price of water that we consume, but also in the fixed charges applied on any water bill. Up until now, this charge for consumers has been 100 lek, while, as of January 1, 2018, this charge will be 200 lek a month. This change will apply to all categories, including household customers, public institutions, private companies, special customers and bakeries.
