Albanians continue to chase their European “dream”
They are very clear about the fact that they have no chance of being granted asylum in the EU member countries, meanwhile, they continue to be deported in the home country, once their asylum application is rejected. But, it seems that Albanians do not intend on giving up on their “dream” to be granted asylum in the European Union. This is indicated by the latest figures published by European authorities, which, once again, rank Albanians among citizens from countries in crisis or war, or even other continents with higher levels of asylum applications.

This shows that Albanian citizens are not only interested on applying for asylum in the territory of a European Union country, but at the same time, the number of those who are interested on doing it is a cause for concern. So, according to the European Institute of Statistics (Eurostat), in the third quarter of this year, 5.900 Albanians have submitted their asylum application in the EU.  They are not that far from the Syrians, who had 26.600 applications for the same period of time and who rank first on the list. Let us not forget that for years now, Syria has been a country involved in an armed clash. So, the list is followed by the Iraqis, who have submitted 12.500 asylum applications; then the Afghans or Nigerians with 9 thousand applications for each group and the Pakistanis and Eritreans with 7.300 applications each. All of these nationalities from outside the old continent, encounter serious problems in their home countries; problems which are not at all similar to those in our country, which, surprisingly, is responsible for a similar number of asylum applications.
