My party and the party of the good Doctor

There’s a scary similarity between the history of the “creation” of the Democratic Party in December 1990 at the home of this and that person, where the party’s program was written with the old computer and with the assistance of the people and the history of the “foundation” of the Communist Party in November ’41.

We, who suffered, who were skint, who are skint and who will continue to be skint, have a different opinion. According to us, the party which would be born, could not resemble to the Communist Party. According to us, the Democratic Party had started to emerge before November ’90, in Malta, where Reagan met with Gorbatchev.

In December ’90, Albania was empty. The bandits who held on to power through bloodshed, had totally ruined the country. The Korean leader who is defying the world, may certainly have a bowl full of rice to resist  a year or two. The bandits who had led the country on the brink of a disaster, could not hold on to power not even a month longer. If those criminals had the slightest chance of keeping Albania like Korea or Cuba, they would do this without hesitation and not two or three years, but always. But, it was impossible for them. Under these circumstances, something was bound to happen here. And it truly happened. But not like the idealists perceived it, through upheaval. Upheaval is caused by those who want chaos, the revolutionaries, not the democrats. It should be perceived as a highly responsible incentive by a number of illuminated intellectuals. So, we waited for a team of wise men to create it from the outset. Not by getting rid of the old cast, which would be identical to the criminal past that would drive the country from the war of classes to another war of classes. It was bound to be something different where every Albanian, without distinction, would be offered equal opportunities to become richer and more prosperous.

But it didn’t happen like we dreamt it. It was something that had no connection whatsoever with our expectations. The fire that was prepared for tens of Decembers by people who had suffered through their resistance, was lit by some thugs who thought they were doing something big during those three or four days of December ’90. One of those days, seeing those thugs, who had even lost his voice from the lout shouting, I told a friend of mine: There’s nothing bad with them for the time being. The problem is how to get rid of them once they are no longer needed. And it was proven immediately after the creation of the Democratic Party. Those who were inspired by communism, driven by the desire for power, started to fight with each other. But it didn’t come as a surprise, given that the arrival of Freedom caused a more terrible trauma than the most pessimistic forecasts. Communist mentality is rooted deeper than we thought.

The dragon who took upon himself to make changes, the good Doctor, quickly noticed this inability. He formed a party and did politics, not an idealistic party, but a real party in concrete circumstances. The doctor created that party which could be created in a country where people were deeply indoctrinated. A party of fanatics. Due to the apathy and the lack of incentive by those who had suffered, this had become a party filled with former secret services’ spies, who were ready to serve anyone, in any circumstances.

However, the Democratic Party, a party which I and my peers helped to form, by knocking  on every door and without asking any favors, thanks to the patience and ability of the good Doctor, worked out. Doctor Dragon had the vision and the ability to keep the thugs away from the party and power. The good Doctor managed to form a government, which the country has not yet seen in terms of the intellectual, professional and idealistic level that it had. Inside the offices of that government, one could hear classical music on the background, something which could not be fathomed with the following government, where one could only hear the moans of woman on the desks.

After so many years, now that Albanians are people with an identity, with dignity, they are not willing to listen to thugs on 1 December.

Now that the Democratic Party has fallen in a precipice along with its strategy of doing politics for purposes of gain, its perspective is unclear.

Conservatorism has nothing to do with militancy, fanaticism and mercenarism. Militancy does nothing else but poison the democratic atmosphere. Those 200 thousand that the Democratic Party lost from its ranks in the latest elections, are not militants. They are decent Albanians who refused the Democratic Party due to the nature of its militants.

If it doesn’t distance itself from fanatics who are only interested to make money and obtain privileges, it will never come to power. The good Doctor’s party, which did everything it could, is gone now. Now it’s my Party’s turn. Woe to that “democrat” who cannot understand this.
