DP: Government may suspend payments for former political dissidents
The Democratic Party declared yesterday that the government has frozen the fund for the compensation of former political dissidents with the scope of 13 thousand families that the law entitles them to be compensated.

Democrat MP, JoridaTabaku said that the government is heading toward this suspension not because it doesn’t have money, but because it doesn’t have the will.

“The government does have money, because each year, it pays 2.5 million euros for the palm trees alongside the highway. The government does have money, because this year, it will pay 5 million euros for the failed concession of the check-up scheme in healthcare”, she said.

Meanwhile, during the eight years in office, the Democratic Party could not pay the financial obligation toward former political dissidents, but, according to the democrat MP, Tabaku, the DP decided to offer them the highest compensation possible, while according to her, Rama’s government reduced this fund by 3.2 billion lek.

“From 2009 until 2013, 62 thousand former political dissidents and their families were compensated with 9.3 billion lek. After 2013, the government has compensated 43 thousand fewer people”, Tabaku declared.

Meanwhile, it was minister of Finance, ArbenAhmetaj the one who warned that after the full compensation of former political dissidents who are still alive, the government may cancel compensations for their successors.
