EU “birds” migrating to Tirana

The migratory season of the European Union toward the East has long started, but now it has reached its peak. When the British left the European Union through the Brexit referendum in June 2016, the first ones to move were the Europeans who were in the island. They went back to their countries of origin. The awakening caused by Brexit didn’t only stop with those few Europeans who were in the United Kingdom.

Brexit has sent a shockwave throughout European Union member countries. Since June 2016, when Brexit happened, until today, many things have happened: Trump was elected, a giant wall to stop illegal refugees was built, Germany changed its course, expectations in France…

So much has happened that one can easily say that the “birds” of the European Union have arrived at the gates of the East. The East, which was once living under communism, an ideology which made no compromise with the West.

Now, the season of changes has brought EU envoys, officials and politicians in the gates of Tirana. Their world has become very small. The political crisis installed in Tirana is a very good reason for the EU to send its “migratory birds” here. In the recent days, we’ve seen several emissaries who have travelled to Tirana, starting with Mrs. Mogherini, Hahn, Kukan, Fleckenstein and several other less important officials who fill out their files. If we are given the chance to look into the records of the most expensive hotels of Tirana, we will surely find tens of small “birds” from the EU who have found a true paradise here.

EU emissaries often come here with threats, ultimatums, but in any case, without the necessary abilities to solve the crisis. I sometimes have the impression that they pray for a crisis to take place in Tirana. This way, they will come here, where there’s good food, where they can have a laugh and where politicians are manipulated. The leader of the Christian Democratic Party (who is close to the philosophy of European civilization) wrote a rather ironic article saying that “the international community has been intoxicated by drugs in Tirana”.

But it’s not only “the political crisis” what has brought the European Union emissaries to Tirana. The crisis is only a cause or a good opportunity for them to look as if they have “stuff” to do here. Initially, they swarmed from the old EU countries to the East countries. For instance, they went to Macedonia, where there is also an ongoing crisis. Although they issued statements and delivered speeches, nobody in Macedonia took them under consideration. But Macedonia has another negative side: the food is not as good as in Tirana. The president of Macedonia refused the meeting with the EU representative, Mr. Hahn. This is why they didn’t remain in our neighboring country, although the crisis continues to be present there.

A while ago, they were in Athens. They stayed there for several years, but they didn’t solve anything. The crisis remained in the hands of Greece and Germany.

In Serbia, they have no chance to stay, because Serbia has strong ties with Russia.

A “coup d’etat” which was orchestrated in Montenegro was not that substantial so they couldn’t install EU emissaries there.

Other Eastern countries have not admitted them. Hungary and Poland, who had suffered under communism, were accepted much earlier as part of the EU. But both of these countries are on the verge of leaving the EU. Poland has strongly contested the election of the Pole, Tusk, as head of the EU and has also contested the penalties issued by the EU about the “refugees”. Poland is against a “Europe moving forward at different speeds”, denouncing the idea of large states robbing small ones. Meanwhile, Orban’s Hungary has erected walls against refugees and has declared that “with the current EU, in a few years, Europe would no longer have Europeans”.

European thinkers, who had been summoned to build the EU’s European project, are declaring today that “EU will not survive more than three years”. On 23 April, France may leave the EU; on 23 April, this country holds presidential elections. Even if the centrist Macron wins, he has declared that he will not remain in the EU. But euroskeptic Le Pen has greater chances to win.

Elections in Holland showed that the balance of those in favor of the EU and those against, is hanging by a thread. In Austria, projects which contest the EU projects are winning.

The European Union seems to have turned into an “island” which is being flooded by conservatives and nationalists. This flood started with the departure of the British island. The most fervent EU supporters, among which the conservatives, are talking of “another EU”. Expeditions from this EU have set off from the “EU island” and have swarmed toward East. Most of them come to Tirana.

But even this “migration” is not happening for purposes of pleasure. EU officials and politicians have a firm grip on the Eastern countries, where the left has created some sort of a swamp like climate.  They think that the EU can survive in this climate. EU officials are doing everything in order not to have any changes similar to Brexit-Trump-Hungary-France-Poland here in Albania.

This is the reason why they now migrate from the EU to Tirana.
