A puppet show is taking place at the Democratic Party. A show where the puppet characters invite the spectators to elect the chairman, while the scenario has been written elsewhere and by someone else. It’s enough to read the synopsis that appears at the theater invitation to understand who will be the party’s leader, who are the positive characters and which ones will be tarnished. This part has also been seen before, in another stage, with another décor; however it was a while ago. Now, only the actors are different.

Nevertheless, the drama of the defeated chairman which has been recently played at the Democratic Party recently, is not to be applauded. It doesn’t make you laugh either, even with its vulgarity and this, also due to the weak actors that filled the DP’s stage, the media and any other place.

Damaged by the big defeat conceded on June 25, while the opposition was expected to analyze the causes of this result, the only debate that we heard had to do with the “freezing”, “thawing” of the chairman, the fresh elections in the party and stories with villas, traitors and permits for apartment blocks, while everyone had set their sights on Sali Berisha.

In fact, after all that mess, it is not very necessary and very little or not at all important to carry out an analysis on the cause of loss. With the shallow ideas that came out in the build-up for the elections for the party’s chairman and the accusations that the sides launched against each other, everything served as a clear argument of the fact that the DP was wasting time. Negativity and discontent that had long been accumulated made the situation very serious. How could anyone hope or think about a victory in the elections?

However, the opposition is an important element of the state and even more, when it comes to the DP, as a historical party that symbolizes the victory of pluralism in Albania. Therefore, its lack of functioning is a cause for concern along with deformations in the structure, which also cause deformations of democracy in the country. But debates within the party looked like amateur dilettantism and not the debates of a party which has lead the country in the past 27 years and which has also played an important role in opposition. This way, it’s hard to think that its role as an opposition will have a big impact on Rama’s current supremacy.

Basha’s decision not to resign from the leadership of the DP after the big loss, but to undergo an unnatural process of “freezing” until the date of the elections within the party, is, nonetheless, a political movement.  Although its morale can be subject to debate, it still remains a move. In spite of the argument that this decision to “freeze” himself was made to avoid any schisms within the DP in circumstances of depression. Only a quick race would take the DP in the path of normality. Nevertheless, in politics, any move is accompanied by a movement of the opponent. The same as in chess, according to Rama. But given that Basha seemed to have many opponents within the DP, it was never known whose turn it was to make the move.

Instead of this, in their declarations and statements on TV, the numerous opponents dealt with the issue of morale, the morale of the defeat and resignation, by denouncing the violations with the candidate list which was drafted at midnight, the responsibility of the chairman and the fact that he bypassed the party’s forums. But there’s one thing that needs to be mentioned here. They could not manage to make a political move against Basha. Nothing. The denouncements or the sermons that were given were nothing else but arguments that offer credibility to a political move. But when the move itself is missing, all of these arguments remain worthless.

Now, the race seems closed and there’s nothing else for us to do but congratulate Basha on the new mandate. At least in this case, he has secured a victory in this unfortunate year for the DP. However, even he didn’t expect his opponents to be that weak. They just made a little noise, but nothing more. When there’s a lot of smoke around, one can win even by “freezing” oneself…!
