Stories with criminals, policemen, politicians and prosecutors
Everyone accuses everyone and everyone is incriminated

The storm has started. Perhaps, quite unexpectedly and when nobody ever expected it, but the file with registered conversations which has come from across the sea is expected to cause a large wave of arrests and new political developments. It’s like hurricane Ophelia, which also unexpectedly, did not go and strike the Caribbean or Florida quays, like other hurricanes do. A sudden turn made by Ophelia went and struck the coast of Portugal and Spain, causing many damages there. Nobody projected these damages. And these damages were the same as the damages that expected traffickers in Albania, because based on the registered conversations, everything was under control. They even had policemen in their pocket and could use them for loading and unloading in the coast of Porto Palermo.

A blow against a criminal group or drug traffickers, is not something extraordinary. These people know the risks that they face in this line of work and they know that they may end behind bars. But what really surprises foreigners is that this country is a haven for traffickers and criminals, because state authorities take no measures whatsoever against them. Even Italian foreign traffickers remain dumbstruck when they see police vans along the road Himara-Saranda. But, our “brave men” calm them down saying that “they’re on our side”. “Their” people go as far as the maritime border control point. And to think that we’re a NATO member country.

Everything seems rotten, infected and ugly. A dirty affair which didn’t start today, a year ago or three years ago. It has started a while ago and “credit” for this goes to the left side and the right side when they have been in power, because state structures, especially police, have been used during these years. Since they’ve been used by politics so much, what difference does it make if they are used by traffickers too? Traffickers even pay better. Not like the state which doesn’t even pay extra hours. And it will not come as a surprise if police is used again once the storm is over and once some politician and police chiefs have ended up behind bars.

The wiretapping affair is similar to the affair that broke out in Macedonia with the wiretapping scandal of politicians. But here, things are different. We don’t have registered conversations of ministers and MPs involved in corruption affairs and tenders, but registered conversations from the underworld, mentioning names of politicians who collaborate with them or who send them their part of the share. Only the arrogance of being safe in this environment allows them to be this reckless and include politicians and police chiefs in their conversations.

Nevertheless, this issue must further looked into. Alright. We all heard it and even those who could not believe it, learned how much state structures have been infected. What’s next? How will it be solved? Or will they take measures to save the others? If the political fate of Saimir Tahiri has been sealed, given that the legal procedure must be followed by a conviction, if 30 police figures who appear in the registered conversations are arrested along with some other important figures, is the problem solved?

The current political movements made so far by each of the sides seem to be an attempt to strike a political deal. The DP leader requests Rama’s resignation and the creation of a technical government. Meanwhile, SP representatives remind Basha that he still has unfinished business with the justice system on the Road of the Nation affair. The same goes for SMI. Everyone accuses everyone and everyone is incriminated.

This is no small problem, because both sides contaminated last parliament with criminal elements. Both sides have governed this country and have left many uninvestigated scandals. They have left to each other institutions that have been abused with and have continued to be used by the new lords with the same arrogance. Therefore, a political deal may keep everyone in the game, as this is the only way to keep things unchanged. At the end of the day, Rama and Basha made a deal before the elections. Will they advance to joint governance under these new conditions? Let us wait. Let us also wait how this storm with criminals, policemen, politicians and prosecutors will go.
