“Albania 1 Euro” is back, 3 contracts in a day
Three contracts in a single day. All of them for a fee of 1 euro. This reintroduces the incentive known as “Albania 1 Euro”. This is what the government decided in a meeting that was held. The cabinet has signed three decisions to grant public spaces to private companies in exchange of a rental fee of 1 euro per square meter. Through the first decision, the government has rented out 40 thousand square meters of space belonging to the former Fish Company in Durres. This space has been rented out to “Naim Tragaj Group”. This is a public space, which so far belonged to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Now, this space has been given to a private company for a period of 20 years. Meanwhile, another 1 euro per contract has also been signed with Durres’ “NPV” for an area of 865 square meters, which is given to Al Alto Gradimento company for a period of 10 years. With the third decision, the government has rented out 1.650 square meters to the former Chemical Company in Porto Romano in Durres to Alba Cosmetic 2014 for a period of 20 years. As we can see from these decisions, besides reintroducing Albania 1 Euro scheme, the government has also intervened in the area of Spitalla, which it announced as a free economic zone a while ago, but this project could not be realized. Let us recall that the incentive in question was initially launched by former right wing government chaired by former PM Sali Berisha, with the aim of encouraging more foreign and domestic investments in Albania. But, the opposition of that time has criticized it. Nonetheless, this project was implemented when the then opposition came into power. Let us recall that in the previous mandate, Rama’s government has signed several rental contract with the price of 1 Euro. A year ago, former minister of Economy, Milva Ekonomi would declare that the left wing government “has signed 21 contracts to rent out state owned premises in exchange of a symbolic amount of 1 euro”. According to her, all of these are aimed “at assisting businesses, which have enabled investments of 25 million euros and employed 3000 people”.
