Agreement on the opening of food canteens in schools

Three ministries and five municipalities have signed an agreement for the opening of food canteens that will offer healthy food in schools. Present in this activity was also the minister of Agriculture, Niko Peleshi, who declared that: “We want to forge an alliance with children, a new alliance which can convey messages on the inspection of food. We want another standard of food. We want to offer pupils and students controlled food. We also need to forge an alliance with mayors and five of them have offered their support. We want to implement the concept of safe food in schools”, Peleshi said.

To promote healthy food through suitable premises, Peleshi declared that inspectorates must also improve their performance. “We should create suitable premises to promote healthy food and food safety in schools, given that we want to introduce a new concept. There’s a need for cultural changes, therefore we have a lot to do in order to improve the performance of inspectorates.”

On her part, minister of Health and Social Protection, Ogerta Manastirliu said that: “The Ministry of Health will look after food in schools, by inspecting safety levels and the way food for these children will be produced.”
