Opposition leader meets with EPP officials
The leader of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, who is on a visit to Brussels to participate in the proceedings of the Political Assembly of the European People’s Parties, has issued a statement following his meetings with colleagues, party leaders and representatives of European governments.

Speaking from Brussels, Basha analyzed the situation with crime, corruption, the use of drug money in economy and politics and the reasons why the government, according to him, has placed Albania in an unfavorable position in terms of the launch of EU accession talks.

“Unfortunately, I noticed lots of hesitation by representatives of EU member countries as far as Albania is concerned. Their biggest concerns related to the rule of law, fight against crime and corruption. Without a doubt, Tahiri’s case and the political protection that he received through parliamentary immunity along with the three top police officials who could not be caught, while they are accused of drug traffic, has left a bitter taste among European officials”, Basha said.
