The newly elected Attorney General continues her meetings with foreign ambassadors
The Albanian interim Attorney General, who was voted with the ruling majority’s votes at the end of last year, Arta Marku, held a meeting today with the ambassador of the European Union to Tirana, Romana Vlahutin.

This is the first meeting between the EU official and the head of the Albanian prosecution since the election of the latter in office. During this period, the head of the Albanian prosecution has also met with several ambassadors accredited in the country, including the US ambassador to Tirana, Donald Lu, the German ambassador, Susanne Schutz, the Italian ambassador, Alberto Cutillo, but also the ambassador of Sweden, Johan Ndisi and the Austrian ambassador Johann Sattler.

Meanwhile, the ambassador has also held a meeting today with the Albanian Interior minister, Fatmir Xhafaj, Justice minister, Etlida Gjonaj and the minister of Finance and Economy, Arben Ahmetaj. This meeting was held as part of the operation named “Strength of the law”, which has been launched several months ago.

The voting of the new Attorney General, Arta Marku caused a tense situation inside and outside Parliament. During her voting, right wing MPs, who objected her election in this post, triggered a chaotic situation inside Parliament, while outside of it, activists and supporters of the opposition were involved in violent clashes with police, in an attempt to break in the legislative institution.
