Editorial/Fatal irresponsibility… … and tragedies that never serve as lesson
By Edison Kurani

As it happened seven years ago, when a mother from Durres left her four little ones alone at home to attend a family dinner, while her children saw a painful death after playing an innocent childish game with a candle, the same happened on Wednesday evening in the same coastal city, when another case of absurd irresponsibility, claimed children’s lives.

This time, three boys, three years old, who were triplets, died in gruesome circumstances within a locked room, under a window with iron bars, after deciding to play with a box of matches.

Even in this case, their mother was not at home. Numerous reports on the media following the tragedy, suggest that the mother had gone out and had left her little ones inside. Perhaps she had gone to buy something at the shop or pick up her other two kids from school.

However, whatever the reason that pushed the mother of five children to leave three of them at home, is unreasonable.

There’s no way someone can leave three little children alone at home, even less locked within a room where even the window could not save them, because the neighbors’ attempts to get them out of the bars, failed.

What’s more, a responsible parent could never leave his child amid dangerous objects such as a box of matches, which led to terrible death of the poor little ones.

Of course, the pain of the mother who lost her children is despicable. Many others too, including the readers, feel the pain of these tragic deaths.

But people are also angry about the fatal irresponsibility which is claiming lives of unprotected children.

Unfortunately, such cases are being repeated and they are not rare.

Knowing the pain and the responsibility of the parents who have lost their children, the bells are ringing for every parent to become responsible, because time is showing that these tragedies are not serving as a lesson.
