Konfindustria: Shell companies should not benefit from public funds or PPPs!
“Given the recent scandal involving the company that was selected for the construction of the Ring Road in Tirana and power supply transmission lines and which was going to be paid 30 million euros for this, Konfindustria demands immediate measures to be taken in order to immediately forbid shell companies from participating in public procurements and all other types of collaborations with state agencies”. This was the reaction issued yesterday by the Konfindustria, the organization that represents businesses in the country. This organization is alarmed by those companies which come from the so called tax heavens, adding that the law should oblige these companies to reveal their owners. According to Konfindustria, this should apply to companies registered in such tax heavens and who have benefited government contracts.

“Konfindustria believes that it’s the government’s responsibility to bring such bill to parliament as soon as possible as proof of responsibility toward the unprecedented scandal where a shell company benefited a record amount of 30 million euros in tenders organized by government agencies and public companies”, the organization added, confirming that such cases cause a serious damage to public’s interest, state budget, the country’s economic development, it destroys standards of honest competition and makes many serious foreign investors leave the country.  “Financial scandals involving hundreds of millions of euros and which have historically happened in Albania are closely related to shell companies. They offer numerous possibilities for money laundering, corruption, tax evasion and evasion from the vetting process in justice and politics”, Konfindustria concludes.
